Loess: The World’s first Climate-Tracked Shopping App
Designing a fashion shopping app for sustainability-conscious shoppers
The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. LOESS is a carbon emission offsetting app designed for fashion shoppers who want to minimize their environmental impact with every purchase. It allows users to track their carbon footprint and offset it to zero.
LOESS’s smart technology measures greenhouse gas emissions at every stage of the supply chain, empowering shoppers to achieve a zero-carbon footprint. The more they shop through the app, the more emissions they help offset from the production of the items they buy.
Together with the Loess and Blimey London teams, I worked on the complete UX and UI of the application.

Research & IA
Together with the Loess team, we performed user research, backed by a long-term opportunity study they performed and technology that was already developed.
We created our target user personas through a set of interviews and focus groups, developed an application flow, and drafted an initial structure of the app that was later validated with over 500 users through testing during the wireframes phase. A set of changes was done following the testing outcome.

Wireframes
To align on the product vision, we worked on wireframes that incorporated research findings and client insights.

Final Application Design

Climate-ID System
Each product will have its own Climate-ID that will showcase detailed information about its carbon footprint and sustainability focus areas of the brand, including the complete path of the supply chain with the carbon emissions amount.

Personal Closet and Carbon Footprint Offsetting
The application not only allows users to shop, but also to track and offset the carbon footprint associated with the items they purchase. Customers can view their impact at any time, including emissions by category and across the supply chain, as well as how their shopping aligns with their sustainability goals.

In-Store Climate-ID Tags
The solution will also offer physical tags that will be available for each item for shoppers to scan in-store. Tags will also showcase items’ carbon footprint and climate impact score directly. Upon scanning, they will land on a special product page that will showcase all the climate impact and product journey information that is available, so the customers can see and track their climate impact.
